About North Carolina Surfing
North Carolina's Outer Banks is one of the East Coast's premier surf destinations. Cape Hatteras picks up more swell than almost anywhere else on the Atlantic seaboard, thanks to its position jutting into the ocean. The region offers everything from mellow beach breaks to powerful sandbars. Hurricane season (August-October) brings the biggest swells, but winter nor'easters provide consistent action.
