About Sandy Beach

Sandy Beach on Oahu's southeast shore is one of the gnarliest shorebreaks in Hawaii. Waves detonate directly onto a steep, hard-packed sand bottom, producing violent, pitching barrels that bodyboarders and bodysurfers live for. Stand-up surfing is rare and risky here. The wave is incredibly powerful for its size—waist-high Sandy's can slam you harder than overhead surf elsewhere. Spinal injuries are common. But on a clean east swell, the barrels are photogenic perfection, and the local bodyboard crew rips.
